About us

Private walking tour with a local guide

Belfast: the story of a city.

At Odyssey Walking Tours, our Belfast born guides know the city inside out and can deliver top-tier tours that touch on all our famous landmarks.

This is the authentic Story of Belfast, told as you travel back in time, walking the streets of a place soaked in tales of intrigue and revolution; innovation and invention leading it to be seen, at its pinnacle, the greatest industrial city in the world.

Having hosted tours for, among many others, the United Nations, the European ERASMUS student exchange programme and the London American Embassy, our expertise in Irish & local history is regarded as second to none.

We also offer our Troubles Tour. This is a unique experience where your guide will take you on a journey through the dark days of conflict in the area in which he was born and raised and witnessed many of the events at first hand.

When you're in a new and unfamiliar city it's always a good idea to get shown around by someone who knows a lot about the place. We promise you will learn something new with us.

Go Out and Explore!

Join us for an exploration of Belfast's - and Ireland's - troubled past as we take you on a journey through 1500 years of history.

After a short exploration around the City Hall area we set off on a circular tour around the town. We show you places off the beaten track; we walk our oldest streets and stand at the site of mighty battles and ancient landmarks soaked in history.

Having lived through the recent troubles, our guides were witness to many of the major events as they occured. We will share with you stories of old Belfast, and throw in a wee bit of gossip for good measure.

We'll see fabulous street art; our earliest places of worship and hear of the city's "near miss" with the slave trade.

Using old photos and illustrations, we will help you experience the city in a unique fashion, covering many more points of interest and covering more ground as we see how our city rose from a small, highly contested river crossing to one of the most powerful industrial cities in the world.

Our Toubles Tour sees us visit the International Solidarity Wall on the Falls Road: The Peace Walls: the IRA Memorial Garden: Bobby Sands mural: Sinn Fein Headquarters (subject to opening): Bombay St: Clonard Monastery.

Join us for an unforgettable tour where you will hear about dates and facts and figures and buildings but it is also about enjoyment as we bring Belfast and its rich cultural heritage to life.

Tripadvisor review: The Story of Belfast walking tour with a local guide

The trip was fascinating. Martin had done loads of research and his photographs of old
Belfast brought the history to life. We loved his insight into Belfast's political, social and
economic history. Top recommendation even on a cold morning.

This experience was amazing! It was a very good use of our time -- we got to see Belfast and learn about its history. I'd definitely recommend this experience. Beats walking around on your own aimlessly. Martin was highly knowledgeable, friendly, and welcomed our questions. He even had pictures that brought his stories to life. He took us to places that weren't included in other tours. I also liked how it was a private tour - just my boyfriend and myself. Martin was even kind enough to take pictures of us!

Context amongst gems of history

Tripadvisor review: The Story of Belfast walking tour with a local guide

Martin is an amazing narrator.
His knowledge is so extensive my party felt privileged to be taken along with his colourful journey of Belfast’s history.
I was keen to avoid a tour that leant heavily on ‘the troubles’ and Martin exceeded every expectation.
Bringing together the medieval, cultural political past he offered a well-rounded picture of why Belfast is where it is today.
A cliche - a glint in his eye - but Martin’s skill of entertaining whilst informing made the three hours whizz by.
I have taken walking tours through numerous cities of the world and this was head-and-shoulders above them all.
Thank you, Martin - it was great!

Based on our Troubles Tour

Wow, this was an incredible experience! We grew up in the '80s and knew about the Troubles, but really didn't understand them at all. Martin lived it. He takes you to the hot spots in Belfast and shows you pictures of what the area you're standing in looked like after a bombing, etc. Then you walk all over the battleground sites and also view the (still existing) walls that separate the Catholic and Protestant neighbourhoods. Wow, so real. It took me several days to process everything and write this review. It was a very emotional experience; we're better for having done the tour. I don't generally write glowing reviews, so know that my praise is legit. If you're interested in the Troubles, Martin is your guy.
